Thinking about bringing your reporter to Asia?

  • Does the reporter reside in Asia?
  • Can they cover depositions in Asia without charging airfare, hotel, meals, taxis, travel days and other expenses?
  • Is the reporter part of an American company and therefore subject to American laws? If not, you may have no recourse if there are problems. (Note: American Realtime is an American company and incorporated in the State of Florida.)
  • Are they well versed in the varying voltage and wattage throughout Asia requiring appropriate adapters and compatible equipment?
  • Are they sure their equipment will arrive intact and on time in light of increased airport security and weight restrictions?
  • Do they have a backup plan if any of their equipment malfunctions?
  • Do they have relationships and corporate rates with local hotels and conference room centers?
  • Can they help you reserve a conference room at the Embassy or Consulate in Japan even though you may have been told there is no availability?
  • Can they cover depositions in Japan without your law firm obtaining deposition visas for them?
  • Can they assist you in the deposition visa process which is mandatory in Japan?
  • Can they act as a local liaison with the Embassy or Consulate in Japan?
  • Do they follow the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure guidelines for transcript and video formats?
  • Are they not just a member of NCRA (National Court Reporters Association) but CERTIFIED by NCRA in the U.S.?
  • Is the reporter able to realtime technical matter with 99.5% accuracy or better, including Asian proper names and geographical terms?
  • Do they specialize in realtiming complex intellectual property cases?
  • Will they use American spellings (criticize, analog, recognize, defense) and not British spellings (criticise, analogue, recognise, defence) which can complicate spell check and word index and word search capability?
  • Are they bringing multiple laptops to the depositions for attorneys who have connectivity problems in Asia?
  • Can they provide laptops to the interpreters to facilitate a smooth-flowing deposition?

Our answers to all of the above are yes! If the team you are considering cannot say the same, you need to contact us.
